Bus Stop 

• The nearest bus stops are at 197 and 136 Shakespeare Road. Electronic signal crossings at the intersection to North Shore Hospital and the TRG Imaging building. The bus stops are approximately 70 metres from the main entrance of the Auckland Breast Centre. They both offer shelter, seating and a space for wheelchair users. Timetables are provided in text format only.
• The bus stop is located on the following bus routes: 858 Long Bay Midtown.
• There is seating and shelter at the bus stop.

Car parking

There are 3 accessible car parks is located in the car park of the TRG Imaging Building, which are marked with yellow ground markings.

Drop off/pick up zone

• There is one 5 min drop off zone outside the entrance of the TRG Imaging Building and one in the main car park. A 15 minute parking bay is also available on Shakespeare Road between the Auckland Breast Centre (209 Shakespeare Road) and the nearby dairy.
• The drop off/pick up zone is located within 200 metres of the organisation's entrance.
• There is no shelter over the drop off/pick up zone.
• There is a kerb curb cut to the pavement or the environment is level.

Kerb Side

• There is a kerb ramp for changes in level between the car park and footpath.
• The identified accessible route to the site:
• Electronic signal crossings with ground tactile indicators are positioned at the intersection with Shakespeare Road and the North Shore Hospital road entrance. A footpath on site provides a safe passage for pedestrians accessing the main entrance from the car park area.
• The accessible route to the site has a minimum width of 1200mm.

The main entrance into the site

• The entrance and full length glazing on the side of the building facing the car park appear similar. The main entrance is noted by signage on the left hand side of the automatic opening doors.
• Main entrance doorways (this includes gates and turnstiles)
• Signage for each of the businesses on site is on the left hand side of the automatic doors. The Auckland Breast Centre on Level 1 has two wooden, double doors with vertical grab rails which open into a reception and patient waiting area.
• The main entrance blends in with its surroundings.
• There are no ramps for thresholds greater than 20mm.

Customer Service 

• Staff are well presented in uniforms and appear warm and welcoming. A chaperone/staff member will guide you to change facilities and an internal waiting area where you will be met by radiologists and/or surgeons for your appointment.
• There are staff available to help with any access enquiries.
• All support animals are welcomed on premises (e.g. guide, hearing or mobility dogs etc).

The identified accessible route within the site

• The Auckland Breast Centre is accessible throughout with good colour contrast between walls and flooring. An accessible, unisex toilet facility is available for patients, on the accessible route near the changing rooms and internal waiting area.
• The accessible route within the site has a minimum width of 1200mm.
• There are facilities and services within the site that are not immediately accessible from this accessible route.
• Lighting levels on this accessible route offer good visibility and viewing.
• The layout suggests a welcoming physical environment (e.g. mobile floor stands provide unimpeded travel, or outdoor environment surfaces are well maintained).

Signage within the site

Signage is kept to a minimum throughout the Auckland Breast Centre. Signage is clearly displayed on the accessible, unisex toilet facility door.

Sensory options

Lighting throughout the complex avoids glare and is even throughout. Braille is included in signage on the accessible toilet facility signage and lift call buttons.

Surfaces

• Carpet with underlay is fitted throughout the complex. The carpet in the main entrance foyer is black and changes to a grey in front of the stairs. A rug has been embedded in an examination room floor to be the same level as the carpet.
• The floor surface covering is plain and clear.
  
  

Lifts

• The lift is accessible with grab rails on all walls. Visual floor numbers and an audible beep and voice inform visitors of the floor they have reached.
• All controls (i.e. landing controls, alarm and emergency telephone) are located within a reachable range.
  
  

Stairs or Steps

• There is a handrail located on at least one or both sides of the stairs.
• Accessible Reception/ Counter / Ticket Sales
• The reception counter is not accessible, however EFTPOS facilities reach across the counter. A private room is available nearby if a writing surface is required.
• The counter is accessible and has a clear space of 1200mm x 1200mm in front.
• There is at least one seat (with an armrest on at least one side and a usable seat height) available to use while waiting.
• There is a private room or quieter area available to use for communication or personal requirements.
• EFTPOS terminals are reachable and usable.

Accessible Toilets

• An accessible, unisex toilet facility is located near the internal waiting area near the changing rooms.
• A unisex, accessible toilet is located Auckland Breast Centre, on Level 1 (patient waiting area).
• All gender accessible toilets are in a self-contained compartment with full privacy.
• Accessible toilets are distributed evenly throughout multi storey buildings.
• The toilet pan provides a stable base to transfer from.

Designated Accessible Areas

• Two waiting areas have a variety of seating options with arm and back rest support and coffee tables. There are grassed areas along Shakespeare Road for support dogs.
• There is a grassed area for support animals (e.g. guide, hearing or mobility dogs).

Getting out safely

• Health and safety for everyone is of great importance to staff at The Auckland Breast Centre.
• Emergency exits are not completely accessible or hazard free.
• All fire/smoke doors can stay open automatically during an emergency.
